EDSA Speech and Writing Competition 2013
The Importance of Managing Youngster Deliquency
was the big theme of Speech and Writing Competition 2013. This event had been
successfully held by two divisions of EDSA; 1st and 3rd division. It was the
first time for both divisions to make such combination in an event. The
competition was divided into ‘speech and writing short story’ for senior high
school students and ‘writing essay’ for college students. The committee had
been preparing for this event approximately in 2 month. For a long time
preparation, they gather a lot of participants which came from different areas
around DI.Yogyakarta, such as Kulon Progo, Sleman, Bantul, Wonosari and so on. Developing
the creativity every students in speech and writing is an aim of the event. In
addition, it was a special place for the committee which came from different
division in EDSA to unite in an event. It also a great opportunity to expand
and introduce EDSA UNY in public.
On Sunday, May 12, 2013, the commitee arranged
Speech Competition as the last event of the agenda. There were totally 22
participants who took part in this event. Started from 8 a.m up to 3 p.m, Speech
Competition separated into two rounds. After the first round, there was an announcement
for 5 selected finalists to come for the final round.
Mrs. Ela, as one of the jury appreciated the commitee in organizing a successful event such SWC. She hope there will be more discussion related to the events of EDSA with the other lecturers for the next time.“Because we actually one family”, she added.
Rachel Diercie from SMA 9 Yogyakarta was the
winner of Speech Competition 2013. She gave an great speech about the big theme
of SWC. In her conclusion, she emphasized of being students we have to open our
mind of the plurality in our country and live in diversity. The first runner up
was Priska Amanda from SMA N 1 Sewon who
gave a speech about how to avoid the negative impacts of drugs. Then, the
second runner up was given to Hana Pertiwi who also came from SMA 9 Yogyakarta.

One from the fifth finalists, Adhistie Lintang
from SMK N 1 Pengasih said: “It was a pleasure for me to join in this occasion.
I learnt a lot from this competition, I can compete and know about others
participants from different schools around Yogyakarta. I do hope there will be
a lot of events like this in the next time”. Taufiq Hani as the leader of the
event said that he glad to see the creativity of all participants. He hope, in
the next time, there will be a better preparation for the other events.
In addition, there was an announcement of the best three in writing
competition. In short story there were Faza Hannan
Purinanda from SMA N 2 Wates as the
winner, Nur Rahmi Nailah from SMAN 4 Yogyakarta, and Khusnul Qotimah from SMAN 1 Wonosari as the
first and second runner up. In writing essay, there were Almira Romala as the
winner, Teuku Aulia as the first runner up and Retno Rahma Safitri as the
second runner up.
